Non-enclosed machines feature a safety shield or to protect the operator from injury. A safety interlock switch prevents the machine from operating with the shield lowered.
WARNING!
Always wait for all motion to stop before raising the safety shield, opening the enclosure’s access door or window, or reaching inside the machines work area in any other way.
To lower the shield, tilt the shield toward the front of the machine.
To raise the shield, tilt the shield upright. Be sure nothing prevents the bottom edge of the shield from contacting the machine table.
Fully-enclosed machines feature an access door to protect the operator from flying chips. An safety interlock switch prevents the machine from operating with the door open.
To open the access door, grasp the handle and slide the door to the right.
To close the access door, grasp the handle and slide the door to the left until the latch engages.
Fully enclosed machines also feature sliding windows on the side enclosure walls.
CAUTION:
Avoid injury!
When operating the sliding windows, always be sure the window catch engages on the window stop before letting go of the handle.
To open the sliding window:
Grasp the handle and slide the window up. The spring loaded window catch will clear the window stops as you raise the panel.
Raise the panel past the stop at the level at which you wish to raise the window, then lower the panel onto the window stop
To close the sliding window:
Grasp the handle and slide the window up enough to clear the window stop.
With your other hand, turn the window catch clockwise to clear the window stop.
Hold the catch as you lower the window to a level just above the stop at which you wish to rest the window panel.
Release the window catch and lower the window panel onto the window stop.
Fully enclosed machines may also feature removable enclosure extensions on either side of the machine.
To remove an enclosure extension:
To remove an enclosure extension:
CAUTION:
Heavy object!
Avoid injury or damage. Use two people when removing or replacing the enclosure extensions.
Locate the wiring harness that supplies the electrical cables to the enclosure extension.
Disconnect the wiring harness at the quick connector fitting at the top of the extension.
Note:
You may need to disconnect one or more wire ties to free the extension cables from the interior cable harness.
Loosen the three bolts inside the enclosure at the bottom of the extension.
While a partner supports the extension from beside the machine, remove the hex screws inside the enclosure on the sides and top of the extension.
Tilt the extension outward, then lift the extension off the enclosure lip.
The backpack contains the electrical components controlling the machine. There are no user-serviceable parts in the backpack except for the 10 amp spindle circuit breaker switch.
